I buy allot of meat at supermarkets when on special. I shop at PnS Albany and there always seems to be something on special so I buy heaps or for some things I buy one pack try it that night and if good go back and get heaps. Recent good buys have been $9.99Kg rump which was very good,Corned beef $6 or 7Kg stewing steak $6.99Kg I also get Turks size 20 chickens Kg on markdown usually due to broken bag etc can be as low as $12
Look around there are good buys out there. I grow most of my own veg these days. Over winter I hunt so get meats like Vennison, pork goat rabbit hare etc though in reality while very nice its not cheap meat same as the fish I catch thats not cheap either.

Like here in Hastings, a LL doubled the rent to long term hair dressing shop and two other businesses, He lost two of his tenants. One shop is still empty three months on. He hasn't lost a thing, and will gain when the other premises get leased. There is always the other side, ah.

And in my opinion Petone needs another beauty salon as much as it needs another cafe. It is strange because Petone has quite a few specialist food shops as well as Pak n Save. There is the Dutch Shop, 2spice shops, cheese shop, Italian, Asian and another with all imported food like cheeses etc. I think there is also a British shop so find it hard that a butcher doesn't fit in. Mind you there is a Countdown to be built. Is it just my suspicious mind!

My friends are quite happy with supermarket meat. They go for quantity over quality and can not understand why the only meat I buy at the supermarket is for stews in the winter.
I only know what I read in the paper, and that was an interview with the butcher. It is a prime site so maybe that had something to do with it. There are empty shops in Petone but they are usually fairly small. I would expect the set up of a butchers to be fairly pricey. Maybe he is taking over a previous butcher with some of the equipment still there.
The Hutt Valley is very short of real butchers but if people don't use them, that's what happens. One girlfriend always complains about the quality of her meat but won't go past the Mad Butcher or the supermarket and she drives.

aragorn2003 - There is a great butcher in Swanson. Calvert's Butchery - on RH side going towards the Scenic Drive.Small shop standing all on its own just before the main Swanson shops. Not the cheapest but most obliging and you can eat every bit of meat. Will bone, roll etc. and he makes his own sausages and ham - great stuff!!

The only meat I buy is 'reduced to clear' specials at Countdown. Often I get nothing. We are a family of 6 (soon to be 7) with a worker who stays during the week.
I send my other half out hunting and fishing as much as possible and sometimes we are lucky to purchase some hogget through a friend.
