Self raising flour, pinch salt, milk to mix, chopped fresh herbs, whipped up and dolloped into the stew to cook. Lovely on a cold winters night.

my mum used to make lovely dumplings in a stew. This was in the UK tho and we could buy shredded suet. I don't think I've seen it in NZ supermarkets - maybe I've not been looking properly?? Is that why you're looking for an alternative recipe cng4?

Shreddo is the NZ proprietary name for shredded suet .Most supermarkets have it, often with the baking ingredients.

lizab, shredded suet has been available here in NZ for many many years and it still is, under the brand name Shreddo - usually found on the supermarket shelves near to the oils, etc. in a margarine-like tub.:-))

Some strong cheese is nice too - feta, blue, aorangi - in bits to give them a bit of a kick. Plain cheese is good too.
