you could drain 5-10 minutes and then put between handy towels to get the rest off...

I made two batches on Wednesday - first batch - drained for an hour; second batch drained for 5-10 minutes.
I couldn't tell the difference.
Two things I now know about tinned asparagus 1. there are 20-25 spears in a tin of Watties Asparagus (I estimated 8-10 - so over purchased!). 2. if I opened the tin at the bottom, the spears came out of the tin without being broken - so the asparagus rolls looked better...
