Do we have to use apricot jams or can we use any jam that is in the fridge?

...sometimes the 'red' jams can bleed into the icing...which is why they use apricot...i use whatever is in the fridge...water it down a little...then heat it up so it will brush on...

Make a sugar syrup and use that. Just dissolve some sugar in hot water.
