found some jam I made last season that is very runny, would it be ok to bring it back to the boil, to hopefully thicken it?

umm, you could try but it wont necessarily thicken. Last time I tried I just made it worse. You could use as a sauce over ice cream or somewhere I have a recipe for using up old jam to make sauce I think. Not sure I can lay my hands on the recipe book though as everything is packed away in boxes while we redecorate.
I think it might be a Digby Law or similar type recipe or even an Aunt Daisy one.
