The curry powder I have used for years is not being made any more. Can anyone recommend a nice mild curry powder please

What was the brand you were previously using?Rather than buy one at supermarket (if you're not sure), go to a local spice shop & get their advice - they may give you a few samples to take away & try - I've done it - you can only but ask. That way I worked out what I liked & went back to buy.

Vencat is a nice brand

Thanks for that guys, I used to use Masterfoods curry which suited us. I live in a small town with no specialist shops, only the supermarkets

Sorry, didn't realise you were far from speciality shops.I see you are from Hawera.I'm not that familiar with that area, but i guess New Plymouth is closest for you.Maybe if / when you can do a trip there - check out the spice shops or 'Bin Inn's'.I find them so much cheaper - I could spend all day in spice shops, just looking around & taking in the aromas! They stock the real herbs / spices (imported) and you can get for cheaper price than supermarket.

whatever you do, don't be tempted to buy "mae ploy" red curry paste.I did recently and followed the direction, and used the whole 50grams which was in the sachet and it was so hot I struggled to eat it and my husband couldn't eat his.I admit to liking hot curries, but not that hot.

Haha 'kuaka' I could imagine! When I go to the spice shops I ask for mild (but mild mild!!) because their version is different! and with curries they cook differently (North / South India) have different recipes / flavours etc.I mainly go to the local spice shops for 'time out & to smell the aromas', but also to get herbs / spices which I can find in supermarkets. My hubby is Egyptian - he eats Kiwi food, but still likes to get certain things like Cardamom etc for his coffee & other things for cooking - genuine things that we can't find in supermarkets. You should see the spice markets in Cairo (huge sacks full of spices etc - blows your mind!).Lainey-girl - hope you have some luck in New Plymouth!Write a list & go for it!

marree - I actually started a thread a couple of weeks ago about this particular curry paste - I mentioned that it should come with a health warning, or at least a fire extinguisher!

Kuaka - I could imagine!some months back I had an Indian student staying for a while (from Southern India where they cook hot hot!!). He made some lovely meals - smelt really nice while cooking, but to eat it was just too much - chilli's, curry leaves etc.I was running around the house saying 'fire! fire! - call the fire engine!'Poor guy. When he cooked on other occasions tho he toned it down somewhat for my sake.
