Is it possible to use an old traditional Christmas cake recipe gluten free by simply substituting gluten free flour for the plain flour? Or are there other factors to consider?

yes you can, I just have BUT if you use alcohol in it, it will not necessarily be gluten free. Mine has turned out beautifully, dark, dense and moist . yes I cut it to check it was edible lol.

Yes done that for several years. Comes out great.
