also the older the MILK (as in WHOLE FULL CREAM) the better the milkshakes. But honestly the quality of so called milk today is absolute sH1* far toooo watered down to get a real decent milkshake. I don't even bother buying them anymore, make them at home, but even then just not what they were. To get a thick type millkshake today one has to have 'additives' added and gosh only knows what crap is added to these so called additives. Plenty of ice cream added also.

I remember the milk bar lunches on trips to town via bus sitting on a high swivel barstool eating a white bread ham sandwich & drinking an orange cordial then having some sort of cake like Marshmallow shortcake, Belgium Slice or Napoleon Cream. Mum would have the same except with mustard in the sandwich hot english of course & a cup of tea.

There was a milkbar about 20yrs ago in Ch Ch that used to sell cream shakes they had milk cream & icecream in them & whipped cream with a sprinkling of cinnamon or nutmeg on top decadent but yummy.

That seems to be what everyone thinks, but it wasn't what we called it and also it used to be sold commercially in southland and i can't remember it being called that. Also if you goggle that as a name it never comes up. Maybe i need to email old bakeries in southland ? ?
