so the bottled spag recipe got me wondering, does anyone have a tried and true yummy homemade baked bean in tomato sauce recipe!

I make this recipe often, it freezes well too. My oval 'Russel Hob' crock pot is the one I use, I have a round 'Zip' one that would end cooking it to a solid mass , its way too hot.
Baked beans
500 grams of navy beans, soaked over night in water lightly fry; 4 rashers of bacon chopped 2 large onions chopped add; 2 cans of tomatoes 1/3 cup of molasses 2 tsp salt 1 tsp pepper 1 tsp of my chili jam Pour into a slow cooker along with the soaked beans 3 cups of water 3/4 cup of brown sugar cook 10 hours, on auto, in the slow cooker

We have a recipe adapted. It is yummy and not too tomatoey. It's cheap to make too. Will get it up within the day.

Baked beans
serves 2
1 x 300g Cannellini beans (if Navy beans unavailable) olive oil 1 rasher bacon, chopped (optional) 1 onion, chopped 1 garlic clove, chopped finely 1/2 tsp basil 1 dsp honey 1 x 400g tin Italian Tomatoes (Benedicts) 1 c water or stock 1/2 tsp salt
Saute bacon and onion in oil. Add garlic & basil, stir over heat. Add honey, then beans, tomatoes, water & salt. Bring to a boil then cook in a 160C oven for 1 hour.

Baked Beans (Aunt Daisy) 1/4 lb haricot beans 1TBSP golden syrup 3 or 4 tomatoes seasoning couple of rashers of bacon Cook beans in slightly salted water. Put in a casserole dish with some of the water they were cooked in. Add golden syrup, seasoning, skinned & cut tomates. Stir & add bacon (opt) in the middle. Cover & bake slowly near bottom ofthe ovenfor sometime.
