I was always taught to only cover the bottom of the slow cooker. the meat cooks in its own juices and with a little sweetener such as golden syrup or honey makes for an awesome meal .It doesnt matter how much water you add but remember heaps of the meats flavours would leech out into the water you would be draining away (unless you need 3litres to make sauce!).

I always use the water that I cook the cornbeef infor the base of making soup.Its great add the grated veges and yummo!I use the golden syrup, malt vinegar, bayleaves and peppercorns!Tastes great!

I add the golden syrup, , bayleaves, splash of vinegar,, & add veges later on so that they are cooked when the meat is done, including awhole onion each, I push 2 or 3 toothpicks through the onion & then it stays together, pretty nice.

I just Put Tablespoon Brown Sugar Pepper & Salt Malt Vinegar in mine. Cook on High for first hour then Low for rest of day.
