Getting the kids to eat their crusts:

I agree. I think most of us here are doomed, according to those who choose to mock. Some even think that "we" will die before them because we dont eat the way they do LOL

cookessentials, Apr 2, 1:52am
Yes, so much easier and also useful.

datoofairy, Apr 2, 1:54am
Lifes too short (especially when you eat badly, apparently) to make issues of silly things like crusts. If your kids dont like them, dont give them to them.If they only like white bread, give them white bread. Its all about balance and moderation.

We will stand united on the day of judgment sister - and our kids won't have starved either! They might even have enjoyed what they ate .

vintagekitty, Apr 2, 4:36am
lol. Uli does not even have children, but it does not stop her telling everyone how to feed them

sarahb5, Apr 2, 4:40am
Ha ha - you're not wrong there!I wonder how she survived childhood in this utopian part of Europe that she's from (wherever that might be .)

uli, Apr 5, 6:49am
Haha alright - sorry to see how little people know about other cultures in this country .

lyl_guy, Apr 5, 8:17pm
lol, I grew up eating weetbix for breakfast every morning, and had 4 marmite sandwiches on WHITE bread every day for lunch. I was the slimmest wee thing, and VERY fit and healthy! Bowels worked too. Still eating bread, unfortunately (according to some) but now at least it's multigrain. Not sure how I made it to almost 50, still slim and fit, on such a deadly diet!Oh, but I have changed from marg to butter. so I have redeemed myself somewhat, hehe.

Bored again lol

When I cut off crusts when making club sandwiches, I dry bake them and the children dip them in houmus or salsa. no waste here and very rarely is it white bread, usually signature range grain bread.Although in my opinion. once in a while you can't beat a soft white club sandwich. nom nom nom.

PMSL

I finally understand why we have a grim reaper.Any fiend involved in cultivating or harvesting grain must, indeed, be a harbinger of doom.

elliehen, Apr 6, 12:37am
miri_s, brilliant!

lythande1, Apr 6, 12:53am
No.
But then I didn't make them eat their crusts either.

cookessentials, Apr 6, 2:23am
Yes and even more interesting that some other cultures know nothing about ours or like to mock the "English" food.

norse_westie, Apr 6, 2:29am
Some of my kids eat crusts, some don't. None are more healthy than the others. I couldn't care less if they do or don't - the bread is wholegrain and thats all I care about. For the smaller two who don't want crusts I simply slice them off and throw to the ever grateful ducks. (Yeah, I know its not good for ducks either, but don't tell them that, they haven't got a clue and love them).

buzzy110, Apr 6, 2:48am
I wasn't aware that crust eating equalled health. I think the original poster was more concerned about waste. Some of us were raised with the mantra "waste not want not" ringing in our ears. It is still ringing loud and strong for some. I'm one of those and I thought the original idea of making rolls instead a good suggestion.

norse_westie, Apr 6, 3:04am
And your point is!

norse_westie, Apr 6, 3:05am
Rolling the bread as OP says is a good option for thin filling sandwiches, not so helpful for the layers my kids prefer. Although we have done wraps with lebanese bread on occasion - but mostly they are too high to fit in the lunch boxes.

uli, Apr 6, 4:38am
If it is all too much for you norse_westie (judging from the two posts above) - why not give up bread altogether!

Just make a lovely salad with some eggs, chicken or fish in a container and supply a fork to your kids :)

uli, Apr 6, 5:20am
What do you mean by "bad time of the month"!
Something to do with female hormones maybe!
Which do NOT affect you!

norse_westie, Apr 6, 5:29am
You seem to partially read posts then jump in and make uniformed and often nonsensical comments. Did you miss the part about the lunar cycle and the full moon! Its common knowledge that the full moon affects behavior for some animals (and mental patients).

sarahb5, Apr 6, 6:29am
Back-fired .

sarahb5, Apr 6, 6:30am
Because you can't play football, bullrush or text while you're eating salad out of a container with a fork .
