i spilt the chook down the back to 'hopefully' speed up the cooking time. the standard is 25-30 mins per 500gms. will splitting it speed the cooking time! if so by how much do you think!

I hot smoke my split chickens and they are generally ready at 45-50mins. Check when inserting a knife into the chunkiest part of the thigh.

I cook split free range chickens for about an hour at 180 C.If it is a battery chicken it will take less time as it will be flabbier and less meaty.

i can't believe how quick it cooked! it took an hour instead of the recommended 2 (2.1kg chook) . all juices are running clear and the lemon, garlic and herbs i put underneath it have made for a delicious smelling house and an even more delicious gravy.
