Make entire dish now and heat later or Cook for 1 hr now, then later near dinner time cook for another half hour to bring back to heat and put dumplings in to cook then?.
Recipe is tocook 1 1/2 hours then dumplings 1/2 hour ..

personally, i would cook first then reheat and then add dumplings as they might go stodgy and soggy before dinner. But thats just me, others may say what they do, but it really is up to you xxx good luck with whatever way you choose xxx

which ever way you cook do not make the dumplings ahead of time as they can go heavy.

cook stew first then reheat and add dumplings as stew always tastes better 2nd time round

You could make the dumplings-put herbs into them+ keep in fridge ready to put into last hour of cooking
