player_smurf, May 21, 4:38am
A few weeks ago in a magazine I saw you could buy dried zest in a jar, it was being advertised as a new product....has anyone seen this at the supermarket??

Seems such a waste to throw away lemon & orange peelswhen you can thinly peel them & dry them for use in cooking.

I just zest my lemons and put it in the freezer in a bag as well as making lemon ice blocks of course.

I juice lemons when I get them and so many recipes call for zest then I saw on here a week or two ago that you could freeze zest too so I'll do that next time I get some.

We sell these in the shop, however, the lemon zest is not dried. It comes in a jar.
I keep some of the lime and lemon juice in the freezer for emergencies.

Thanks heaps...not sure if that's the one i saw in the mag but it will do the job! I normally have lemons and limes on hand but this would be great for backup especially if it has a long shelf life. Will call them tomorrow.

Yes - calledLemon Fresh Lemon Zest.Smells a little like disinfectant.Works in sweet dishes, but no so good in savoury in my experience.I like the idea (above) of drying or freezing my own.I do this with rosemary - smoosh it in the blender, then freeze, and use for marinading lamb fillets or chops.
