Not sure about a typo prawn_whiskas - fisher just posted a recipe called "Marge’s Curried Cucumber Pickle" which has 6 medium cucumbers, 3 ¼ cups white vinegar, 3 onions, 2 cups sugar, 3 red peppers . and some more stuff .

Seems that a lot of people think of salads or pickles as sweets nowadays!

I wonder if they think they are eating healthy as it's vegetables! LOL

it might be that they are actually pickled vegetables than salads as such.

the longest you should keep cooked and chilled rice in any form is 3 days as it is a very high risk food for the food borne bacteria baccillus cereus

I'm with the others for not keeping made up salads long term - yuk! However, that said, I recommend making up a mint vinagrette (mint, vinegar, sugar, olive oil, salt pepper to taste) and pouring this over a drained can or tweo of mixed beans. The long term coleslaw is sauerkraut I think.

No - sauerkraut is fermented cabbage. Just cabbage and salt and let ferment.

The recipe sounds like pickled cabbage. And yes it might last a few weeks in the fridge - not very appealing though.

Give it a go , you may be surprised - it doesn't usually last weeks in our house

To go with the long life thread!

We have just been on a holiday with extended family (8 in the house) and then more family visiting for meals.
We found that it didnt take long when two or three people pitched in.

Some of our low-prep regulars were tomato, olives and soft cheese.
