Not sure if I am a bit early but I am looking for about 3-4kgs of fresh figs to preserve. I live in Wellington.

They are really an autumn fruit here Julie - season lasts from February to April so you may well be too early.Great idea for Christmas though - I adore figs.

Fresh figs in Northland start around January - they are the pretty insipid Adriatic variety - and already too late for Xmas.
February, March and April are fresh fig months in NZ.
So you have to either buy imported ones at a price or cook something else up :)
