Why do NZ'ers always serve sliced bread with meals

Yes I agree really, and now that we are all better educated on what we should be eating, and how much, I can't understand them carrying on that tradition. We get all the carbs we need in a roast meal, and then some probably with the roast vegies.

Hmmmm Ox tongue on nice freshly homemade bread is great. Especially after all has gelled nicely and sliced right ( tongue that is).

Editing to add that about a month ago did 2 loaves all with ox tongue as the filling for sandwiches for pot luck late afternoon BBQ lunch/meal - all were scoffed smartly.

We love tongue, but usually just buy the tinned lamb tongue, either eaten with lettuce salad, or made into a sandwich

Our Homekill butcher used to give us all the spare tongues that customers didn't want. Yummo!

Amazing the number who will not touch it.

More for us but then it is quite hard to get a regular supply in the city.
