I'm hopeless in the kitchen - spreadable butter

caprio1, Dec 9, 10:21pm
I would like to have a go at making my own home made spreadable butter. One recipe says 50/50 butter and olive oil or vegetable oil and mix together. If I use 250g butter how many cups of olive oil is it? 1 cup?

The other recipe says 2/3rds butter, 1/3rd olive oil. How to measure out.
Thanks.

One 250 ml cup of olive oil will weigh about 250g, a little more.

To measure 2/3 butter 1/3 oil - get a measuring jug or cup. Fill to two thirds with olive oil, add pieces of butter until the oil reaches the top. For example if you have a 250 ml measuring cup pour oil in to reach 167 ml, add pieces of butter until the oil reaches 250ml.

Just keep butter in the pantry. It should stay soft.

Are you extending it, or do you want to soften it?
A quick way to soften butter is to drop cubes of it into hand-hot water, leave for a minute, then pour the water off. It's fat - won't come to any harm in the water.

Is that 3rd sentence correct? Shouldn't it be 1/3 cup oil?

You're quite right. Thanks!
