Cucumber relish too too salty

made this, this morning, 5 large apple cucumber, 5 onions, all chopped, and 1/4 cup salt sprinkled overnight. not a lot of liquid to drain off this morning. followed recipe and added rest of ingredients, including tin of crushed pineapple, and then to top it all off, just slightly caught it and a bit of burn.
Do you think 1/4 salt is too much. I have never added water.

A 1/4 what spoon cup. Its a good idea to rinse anything that has soaked overnight in salt or brine.like the soun d of your recipe I have also bottled sliced cucumber in white vinegar and its yum on sandwiches

¼ cup of salt is OK for brining anything but as previous poster said, it should be rinsed well before adding other ingredients. First time making I followed my recipe too (which didn't say rinse) and I found finished product too salty so I now rinse well before making myrelish.

nauru, should it have had water added with the salt. I have made this for about 8 years and never had it taste salty before. just wondering if the apple cucumbers were not the right ones to use.
hubby says its not too salty, so that is good.
