From my ~1970’s Edmond’s Cookbook….
CHINESE CHEWS 2 eggs 1 cup brown sugar 3 oz melted butter 1 tsp essence of vanilla pinch salt 1 breakfastcup flour ½ breakfast cup rolled ocats 1 tsp baking powder ¾ breakfast cup each ofchopped dates,chopped walnutsandchopped preserved ginger
Beat eggs and sugar, add melted butter and vanilla, pour into dry ingredients previously mixed; lastly add fruit. Bake in square tin at350°Ffor30 to 40 minutes.Cut while hot.:-))

Thanks for posting that 245sam - I'd completely forgotten about that recipe and my mum used to make it a lot when we were kids.

you're very welcome nzhel, but I think I should point out the typo!Most likely you've guessed what the ingredient is, or should be, that is listed after the flour but my apologies for the slip of the finger - it should of course read ½ breakfastcup rolled oats. :-))
