Kept hoping she would stop whisking those egg whites! whitebait meringues.

strebor1, Mar 24, 9:32pm
I am surprised there wasn't a lot of sweat, tears and shouting last night. They all seemed to keep their cool pretty well. I wonder how many know how to cook pigs trotters!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 10:44pm
Nose to tail - so looking forward to it.

"The Nasty Bits: Collected Varietal Cuts, Usable Trim, Scraps, and Bones"
by Anthony Bourdain.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 11:23pm
All good!

lodgelocum, Mar 24, 11:31pm
Did you see all the helpers last night at the end of the show! heaps of them;would take a lot of kitchen staff to cook for 1800 guests!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 29, 4:44pm
The masterclasses start on TV1 tonight at 7.30, with the nose-to-tail episode on Sunday.

elliehen, Mar 29, 5:58pm
Why does that sound so unappetising!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 29, 6:19pm
I guess it is to you Ellie ;-)Some of the tastiest bits though.
And more importantly for the entertainment value, lots of these cooks mightn't have tackled these bits before.
BTW - hope you're having a relaxing Easter. Had good weather down there! I know someone holidaying down your way.

elliehen, Mar 29, 6:39pm
Beautiful weather.the long hot summer continues.Suggest to your friend that he/she call in at a brand new Gallery/Cafe on top of the Takaka Hill at the entrance to the Canaan Road - The Woolshed. It's been open only a month and has good coffee, just with a snack so far, but you can browse wool and wood arts and craft from creative people in the immediate area and check out a petting zoo with llama, donkey and Gotland sheep etc

Nice place for a break on top of the world :-)

bedazzledjewels, Mar 29, 6:40pm
It's a stunning area. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll pass it on. Drizzling here today, but it's needed.

strebor1, Mar 29, 6:56pm
I am looking forward to it, it should definitely sort out the men from the boys.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 29, 7:06pm
If you want to see a good video of a new series looking at nose to tail cooking, check this out - http://www.youtube.com/watch!v=QpQL2uW5wuc

unknowndisorder, Mar 29, 8:07pm
Is that by the caves! when we went through the caves, it would have been nice to have a decent snack, but that was a few years back, and the highlight was the caves, the road, and I just loved the area. Just a shame yu can't dive in the pupu springs any more, because that was awesome and I think the last dive I ever did due to bursting my eardrum on an earlier dive - oops. (Have been there a couple of times)

kiwiscrapper1, Mar 30, 4:31am
noooo.dont think I would try any of their recipes!

What brand are the pots and pans they use on the show! and are they good quality, they seem to look ok on the show.

elliehen, Mar 30, 4:42am
No this is a new one.The Ngarua Caves do have a cafe too, I think.

The Woolshed is past that at the very beginning of the Canaan Road, which is the way to Harwood's Hole.

I had summer visitors who jumped from the rocks into the icy Crystal Pool just below the Riwaka Resurgence where the river comes straight out of the hill through underground caves.Try that next time you're over here!

kaddiew, Mar 30, 6:40pm
Tonight's episode starts earlier, at 7.25pm . in case anyone doesn't - or does! - want to miss the usual first few minutes of hype. :)

bedazzledjewels, Mar 30, 6:49pm
I saw only a bit of last night's masterclass but I was interested to see Josh using both almond flour and almond meal, and recommending reducing the amount of sugar in recipes if it seems appropriate to your taste.

strebor1, Mar 30, 10:22pm
Yes I was pleased to hear that, as we do eat too much sugar.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 30, 11:45pm
It's something I'm picking up from the MKR judges too. They're looking for more balance in flavours than just sweet and looking for texture too. The straight full-on sugary desserts aren't scoring so well.
I wonder if Aaron will shine again tonight! It'll be interesting to see if he can keep up the high standards when he gets to patisserie.

davidt4, Mar 31, 12:14am
Didn't Aaron make a pudding in the first episode !I seem to remember that he got his apron for a lovely looking apple tart.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 31, 12:16am
I'd forgotten about that. He could be an all-rounder then.

strebor1, Mar 31, 12:32am
Yes he is certainly one to watch. I am watching a couple of others as well. It should start to get more interesting, now that they have to really perform.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 31, 12:35am
One of the women is married to a chef, I seem to remember!

elliehen, Mar 31, 12:36am
When there is a standout from the start, the pressure on that person in intense, but he does look like a very cool and collected character.Maybe his age (42!) gives him an edge in the "don't sweat the small stuff" stakes.
