Yes well tonight should be the night when anyone who is half a decent cook, really shines through, and also show the ones we can write off.

elliehen, Mar 17, 7:26am
It's going my way.a bowl of comfort soup ;)

lodgelocum, Mar 17, 7:31am
Most did well tonight, cooked from the heart and it showed.

esther-anne, Mar 17, 8:01am
I thought it might be a little depressing having gone through a major bereavement a couple of years ago.For a couple of weeks I cooked for my daughter and her husband - she didn't expect to die, neither did we expect that, but for weeks when they came for a meal she asked for all her childhhod favourites.Stew with dumplings;meat and potato pie (Lancashire very plain dish);Shepherd's Pie,; lightly baked snapper with cheese and parsley sauce, green beans and mashed potato and roast beef with neeps, roast potatoes, cauliflower and Yorkshire puddings; split pea soup with crispy fried croutons. She was an accomplished and fabulous cook but wanted these basics.

I so enjoyed tonight's show - not macabre or depressing - cooking from the heart for people they loved. What a shame anyone had to go home!

Apologies if I have introduced a sad element but I so loved making things for someone I adored - not for my own last supper but almost for hers!

strebor1, Mar 17, 8:14am
I think tonight we saw some great cooking, oh I wish I could have tasted some of those dishes! It was so nice to see an ethnic mix of dishes too, not just meat and 3 veg. Great to see the bar has been lifted somewhat!

esther-anne, Mar 17, 8:48am
Yes indeed strebor-it badly needed lifting and tonight they did it. Perhaps a good ploy from the judges to teach the contestants what they mean by "cooking with love" !

rainrain1, Mar 17, 7:26pm
That was really great last night, I will have try the pork spare ribs recipe

indy95, Mar 18, 12:42am
Getting slightly off-topic I know but on the subject of Spanish food I seem to recall you mentioned some time ago that you had bought Claudia Roden's Book of Spanish Food. What do you think of it !

indy95, Mar 18, 1:29am
To give it the correct title The Food of Spain by Claudia Roden.

elliehen, Mar 18, 1:48am
indy95, you might be interested in this interview with Claudia Roden.

strebor1, Mar 18, 4:05am
Yes they certainly looked yum! Mind you most of the food did this time.

indy95, Mar 19, 1:29am
Than you for taking the trouble to post that, elliehen. I have been a fan of Claudia Roden for a long time. If she ever writes the "memoir" mentioned in the interview it will certainly be worth reading.

davidt4, Mar 20, 4:58am
It's great. She's a wonderful writer and she includes a lot of background detail that puts each dish in context. The recipes are all drawn up with home cooks in mind and to me are totally authentic.I use it a lot.

nfh1, Mar 20, 5:36am
Just got around to watching this episode - much improved, no comparison to the previous ones, I really enjoyed it.

lodgelocum, Mar 20, 5:44am
Yep, a big improvement, hopefully more good cooking to come.

indy95, Mar 22, 6:07am
I absolutely agree.

strebor1, Mar 24, 12:14am
Tonight should be interesting. We will see who can stand the heat in the kitchen!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 12:19am
Oh yes - the cruise ship.

strebor1, Mar 24, 12:35am
MMMMMMMM, makes me get itchy feet again.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 12:36am
I've never been on a cruise. Do you think the food tonight will be all buffet style!

elliehen, Mar 24, 12:38am
The show is so condensed that it gives the sensation of being on Fast Forward all the time.

strebor1, Mar 24, 12:39am
I hope not! The trouble with cruise buffets is that the food is the same day in day out, and everyone eats too much. I tend to go to the other restaurants, better food, and only a certain amount put in front of you. Having said that, I still carry the extra weight I put on in the last one, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper. I tried to dance it all off, but even that didn't work.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 12:40am
Bet you had fun though!

strebor1, Mar 24, 12:41am
Yes I guess they have to edit all the swearing out of it!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 24, 7:34pm
I'm not too surprised at who left last night. She's been struggling a bit. Sushil is starting to shine - go him!
