I hope it improves, it is just not grabbing me at all.I am pleased I record everything and can wizz through all the boring bits, which does not leave a lot to watch.I will give it one more week I think.

strebor1, Mar 4, 10:37pm
Well whether you like Josh Emett or not, he certainly has become one of the top chefs in the world. I have heard he is really a nice person, so maybe he just comes across that way. He knows his onions, so it does pay to listen to his criticism.Yes nfh it has been so basic so far, dying for them to get into some superior cooking!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 10, 5:37am
Hopefully with tonight's mystery box. It looks like the vegetarian will be a bit challenged by the whole duck.

elliehen, Mar 10, 5:51am
I'll bet there'll be a carnivore challenged too. Some of those young cooks will have only ever seen a bald duck in pieces ;)

funho1, Mar 10, 6:16am
It'll test their butchery skills for sure. I remember seeing Michel Roux Jr debone a whole duck - seemingly effortlessly!

lodgelocum, Mar 10, 7:02am
A couple of good dishes coming through, and a few disasters

gingercrush, Mar 10, 10:44am
Well I liked the good dishes but meals with rice and peas. wtf is this masterchef or worlds most useless cook does a rice dish! And the cook off or whatever one can call that. OMG noooooooooo.

I would have preferred multiple people go home than keeping pulling that trick.

davidt4, Mar 10, 7:39pm
Obviously a lot of them had no experience with duck - so many served the breast without the fat having been rendered out.I thought the judges were actually very polite this time, given how many horrible looking plates they had to try.

toffeey, Mar 10, 7:53pm
I cannot understand how somebody that would put themselves forward for the competition would not have cooked duck before. Surely culinary curiosity would have driven you to try at least once. It drives me nuts when these contestants say they don't know anything about an ingredient that is cooked regularly on these shows.

toffeey, Mar 10, 7:58pm
Having said that, I guess they had the guts to step up and give it a go. Whereas I am safely criticising from my lounge. Hmmmm, something to think about. 2014. One of my best friends had a go in the first season and got to the first round. She is an incredible cook but nerves got the best of her and she made a basic mistake and got eliminated. Maybe it's not as easy as it looks.

twindizzy, Mar 10, 8:00pm
Some of those dishes looked hideous. You mention why put yourself forward if you had zero experience with duck, how about if you had ZERO knife skills!

toffeey, Mar 10, 8:03pm
Yep, it's pretty surprising twindizzy.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 10, 8:17pm
Those top four last night seem to be the only ones who can cook. A strange programme last night.

elliehen, Mar 10, 8:20pm
.which makes the success of the lone vegetarian even more praiseworthy.

They seem to put in a vegetarian each year just for sport. It's a feature of Reality TV that there is always a contestant put there for the viewers to "love to hate".

I thought the goading of the contestants to hate her too, with constant switching of the camera to their dark mutterings was classic trash Reality TV.The show has become so much more scripted that soon they'll have contestants reading from an autocue, as well as the judges.

If you're a musician interested in film scores, it's hilarious to close your eyes and listen to the soundtrack. You could easily be watching a movie like the famous "Psycho".

bedazzledjewels, Mar 10, 9:01pm
Similarly Ellie, turn off the sound track and just watch and it's nowhere near as scary. As I said, a strange show last night.

davidt4, Mar 10, 9:47pm
The "mood" music was excruciating last night.i guess they are desperate to create some sort of interest - goodness knows the contestants aren't proving any.Anyone know how the ratings are going!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 10, 9:49pm
This might sound strange, but I think that might be in part because it's only on once a week. With the Australian version you get more "into it", seeing it almost every night.

2young1, Mar 10, 10:04pm
it needs to pick up a bit as i am losing interest to be honest.MKR for sure.

davidt4, Mar 10, 10:05pm
I don't know Dazz - UK Masterchef Professionals was shown only once a week and sometimes even less frequently. We were riveted. And it didn't stoop to any intrusive personal stuff.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 10, 10:16pm
Very true. Have you seen Ash's book on Basque cuisine!

davidt4, Mar 10, 10:46pm
I've got it on order and it should arrive this week.I'm really looking forward to it as I love the Basque influence in his food.

indy95, Mar 13, 11:38pm
I gave up watching all versions of Masterchef some time ago but unavoidably sat through about half of the so-called mystery box challenge. If what I saw represents the programme's current standard then I think the sooner it disappears from our screens the better. Rosemary McLeod's column in today's Dominion Post sums it up very well.

strebor1, Mar 14, 12:06am
I would like to see the ratings after this week's show.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 14, 1:40am
It's all well and good to feel sorry (and sometimes identify with) those who are eliminated for whatever reason, but it is THEIR choice to enter and by now they know what they're in for and the power of editing.
