Well a Hangi will put them to the test. Basically its slow steaming which is an easy way to cook basic food in bulk. Wonder what masterful cheffy type dishes will appear.

rainrain1, Feb 23, 11:47pm
Salt ot no salt, there's is nothing quite as good as a good hangi, don't watch then, you are judging it before it's even aired.dah!

rainrain1, Feb 24, 1:34am
It was really interesting tonight, just loved it

duckmoon, Feb 24, 2:01am
Why ask them to cook what they already know.

Asking them to act on knowledge and instinct is amoretti telling test

davidt4, Feb 24, 3:34am
I thought the hangi test was a bit off-topic as half of it was digging holes and building fires. The Koura opportunity was good - a test of intelligence given that the thermal pool wasn't hot enough and only one contestant thought to use the embers. The person who served raw koura should have been sent home.

Hangi food is popular for weddings and birthdays, so knowing how to dig a pit, prepare and cook a delicious one can maybe be to their advantage some day.Now they need to know how to cook pig or lamb on a spit.also very popular for large gatherings here in gods own

Sadly there are hardly any lobster left in our creek which winds it's way through our property. We used to catch dozens of them not so many years ago,

kaddiew, Feb 24, 1:40pm
Very disappointing. Too much fluff and padding at the start, only a few minutes of actual food prep/cooking.

bedazzledjewels, Feb 24, 1:42pm
Obviously made with an international audience in mind.
It was the nicest hang food I've seen though! A pity that lady went as I'd like to have seen more of her cooking.

rainrain1, Feb 24, 1:52pm
whoops didn't mean to post twice up above.i was a bit sorry she went home too

bedazzledjewels, Feb 24, 2:11pm
Damn autocorrect - that's hangi food not hang food!

strebor1, Feb 24, 4:25pm
I agree. It was more a tourist docmumentary than a good cooking competition as well. At least they used a bit more imagination than normal hangi food though. Anyone who produces raw food, must know it is a nono!

bedazzledjewels, Mar 2, 10:43pm
So it's cooking Mexican tonight. Hope they have to deal with cactus!

lodgelocum, Mar 2, 11:27pm
Thank goodness I aren't on the programme, wouldn't know where to start cooking Mexican!

strebor1, Mar 2, 11:27pm
Lol. I must say I am looking forward to it, I love Mexican food, hope I get some new ideas!

kaddiew, Mar 3, 12:07am
I'm hoping they dispense with all the usual hype and just get down to actually cooking.

rainrain1, Mar 3, 12:24am
could be pickly tonight

gingercrush, Mar 3, 12:59am
Nice challenge so far but surely Mexican food is more than just tortillas!

Also is the bartender the villain this year! Or the stupid one!

elliehen, Mar 3, 2:00am
.and more than tacos ;)

I backpacked in rural Mexico and one memorable dish was chilli pepper stuffed, coated in batter, fried and served with a piquant sauce.I've never tried to replicate it, but I'd eat it again.

Edited to add the wiki link for a bit of history.

I have to say I was disappointed that I didn't get any new ideas, but the show is young yet I guess. I hope we get to see some of them really shine through soon. Most of them seem to be very average.

davidt4, Mar 3, 11:25pm
Aaron is still my pick.Almost all of the others seem incredibly inept and/or ignorant. What about the poor soul who put the tortilla press straight on to the element. He couldn't pronounce "tortilla" either.

esther-anne, Mar 3, 11:34pm
I think they may as well give Aaron the title now - he's a class above. He appears to be a sweet and humble guy to boot!

Ah well!Early days still - someone quietwho hasn't shone yet may emerge from the pack at some stage.

bedazzledjewels, Mar 3, 11:34pm
Aaron was the stand-out last night for sure. A couple of the younger ladies seem promising too.

barbs77, Mar 4, 2:10pm
If they continue to have one show a week, it will be on for years, we will all be insane with the inept cooking and sarcastic comments form Josh-I love myself-Emmit.
Surely they will move it to the 5pm slot 5 days a week to rush it through!
On a side note, I also snapped the handle of my tortilla press, a rolling pin is proving to work well.
Thats all.

elliehen, Mar 4, 2:18pm
There are a number of cosily chubby ladies this time round.I hope the media moguls who bankroll the show will not insist at the end that they are not trim enough for all the promotion that goes with winning.
