Bitter-tasting shortbread

Does anyone know why mine has turned out like this!I thought I had followed the recipe to the letter.Many thanks.

Sorry - I used the Edmonds recipe:
8 oz butter, 4 oz castor sugar, 12 oz flour, 3 oz cornflour and 1/4 tsp salt
Creamed butter and sugar, added sifted flours and salt.Kneaded and cut into pieces.Baked at 300F for 35 mins.Thanks.

thats the one I use.in fact I was just summing up the energy to make some.but decided to wait till tonite when its cooler.
Only thing I can think of is maybe it was the butter!

The only ingredient in that, that could make them sour is the butter. Does it taste okay, it could be a tad rancid if left in too warm an area.

I use the Edmonds recipe too, sorry but they always turn out lovely.perhaps as others have said above.
