And a chef in the Armed Forces is not working in a "professional " kitchen!
Those chefs have the same basic training as those who work in a hotel kitchen, and then they are trained to come up with a similar standard of food under many different circumstances - from a field kitchen, to the Officer's Mess, to VERY high falutin' Regimental Dinners, where they often entertain Royalty and Heads of State.
Where they can, the Executive Chefs in the Armed Forces also make sure that their young chefs also take part in Salons Culinaire (Chef's competitions), where, more often than not, they beat most of their opposition from the Civvie world.
A professional chef is anyone who has undertaken the required training and exams - whether they work in MacDonalds, the Armed Forces,a private house, a hospital, a cafeteria,a restaurant (and many restaurant chefs are totally untrained) cafe or hotel, or anywhere else that requires their expertise.

I don't think that's what Dazz was saying.Quite the opposite in fact.

bedazzledjewels, Dec 15, 5:06am
So you agree with me then. It wasn't me questioning the 'chef' bit of this programme. It was someone else.

Dazz didn't mean that a chef in the Armed Forces is not a professional, she is arguing the opposite, that they are indeed professional. Her post was in answer to posts 8 and 13, where someone asserts that the contestants are NOT professionals, but merely "good cooks". Which is plainly wrong.

punkinthefirst, Dec 15, 5:52am
OK.sorry all, especially bedazzled. There is one hell of a lot of study and work that go into making a professional, and it irks me when "good cooks" claim to be chefs. and I've seen those Armed Forces guys in action. Magnificent! (Especially in their dress whites!)

bedazzledjewels, Dec 15, 6:01am
All sorted Punkinthefirst. :-) I think mwood was perhaps confusing this programme with the the ordinary one. There's a mile of difference. And yes, the armed forces is a great training for a chef.

cloudberry, Dec 15, 6:09am
Not that mwood would ever admit that he was wrong!

bedazzledjewels, Dec 15, 6:12am
There are some other blokes a bit like that around here too. ;-)

davidt4, Dec 15, 8:54am
Sshhh. best that sleeping dogs lie [and if you want to take that as a pun you are welcome Dazz].

mwood, Dec 15, 9:01am

bedazzledjewels, Dec 16, 11:28pm
Had a personal tweet from Monica today. Nice!

bedazzledjewels, Dec 21, 11:23pm
Just a reminder that this is on at 1.30 today.
I almost forgot! Semifinals start today. So looking forward to Claire coming back.

uli, Dec 22, 3:13am
I would be so fed up with having to be in front of a TV at a certain time LOL :)
I hope you enjoyed it!

bedazzledjewels, Dec 22, 3:58am
I loved it thank you.

cloudberry, Dec 22, 4:39am
Huzzah! Just about to poour a (second) glass of Merlot and watch it. (Sometimes I wonder if I drink too much.nah.)

bedazzledjewels, Dec 28, 10:54pm
Reminder - on at 1pm today. Yoohoo Cloudberry!

iriegirl, Dec 28, 11:57pm
Waiting for it to start, lunch at the ready! Though it does tend to take the gloss off what I'm eating!

bedazzledjewels, Dec 29, 12:22am
That French restaurant is amazing!

bedazzledjewels, Dec 29, 1:29am
That was a fantastic episode.

cloudberry, Dec 29, 1:56am
Thanks Dazz.recording as we speak (so to speak.) I need to wait for wine time to watch it. Phew it's hot and muggy today in CHB! And I have a hundred sheep in my paddock instead of the usual gang of twelve old ewes.pooh!

davidt4, Dec 29, 2:13am
Ash's food looked absolutely wonderful!I love the Spanish influences.

I wish I'd brought some Espelette pepper back from Spain as I have looked for it here without success.

bedazzledjewels, Dec 29, 2:17am
A pity that one of them had to go, as I suspect the next semifinal will have a weaker pairing.

davidt4, Dec 29, 2:25am
Yes, that woman's food has always seemed a bit pedestrian.
