To add to the above, I recall Annabel saying that if there are nut allergies to consider, she advised that sweetened condensed milk could be used instead of the peanut butter.:-))

Just made it, replacing chia seeds for sesame and brown sugar with raw.Just cooling it before it goes in the fridge.Sure the boys will devour it!

fran142, Oct 7, 9:14am
Annabelle said on last nights programme you could use sweetened condensed milk in stead of peanut butter

245sam, Oct 7, 9:24am
yes, as already advised at#4 along with the reason for doing the substitution.:-))

bluecalico, Oct 10, 6:06am
I made them with pumpkin, sunflower and chopped almonds with skins on.tasty tasty.I found it easier to cut not straight from the fridge.

cats5, Oct 10, 6:50am
may be cut it before it goes in the fridge

duckmoon, Oct 10, 5:28pm
How many does it cut into!

rarogal, Oct 10, 6:36pm
Lol, I was just thinking it sounds good enough for ME to, not birds!

rarogal, Oct 10, 6:38pm
Oh wait, I feel really stupid, are these intended for humans, despite the title!

245sam, Oct 10, 6:48pm
Yes, definitely intended for human consumption - IMO the title comes about because of all the seeds.:-))

happy-me, Oct 10, 6:52pm
I made this and really liked it, I had some white chocolate which i added.
Still not a healthy as i would of liked but still yum, and I used cranberries.

rarogal, Oct 10, 7:09pm
Lol :o)

raine8, Oct 10, 7:16pm
found it was sweet enough without the sugar but tasted bit buttery

kuaka, Oct 10, 10:11pm
I've been making a similar recipe (also called birdseed bar) since the late 70s.It uses sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut, chopped mixed nuts and sultanas, and the mix that holds it all together is 100g butter, 1/4 cup honey, 1/2 cup brown sugar. It's yummy and I have never found it too sweet.

bunny51, Oct 10, 10:18pm
I think I have that recipe somewhere. IS it an Alison Holst recipe!

maynard9, Oct 11, 6:17am
Yep - I have been making Alison's one for years too.

Just a word of warning tho don't consume if you have an irritable bowel system. or the potential to,.

kuaka, Oct 11, 6:47am
I don't know which book it came from, a work colleague gave it to me years ago.
