Are you much of a baker tarshlove! only, if you're not, there's no shame in using packet mix for your cupcakes. Buy a plain flavor and a few bottles of essances so you can add essance to the mix to get different flavors. And I agree with chicco2, youtube is a good place to learn icing techniques with an icing bag and different nozzles. If you're not keen, you could simply buy the pretty icing flowers and edible glitter to make it all fancy from a cake decorating shop. Then it's just a matter of piping frosting on top, and setting a decoration in the middle.

Great ideas here. This is exactly what I do & have had some great comments on my cupcakes. I buy my decorations off various traders on here & use a packet of Edmonds Dreamy Vanilla Cupcake mixture. I had a great time last Christmas designing them & I've already bought the decorations for what I want to do this Easter.

The hummingbird bakery cookbook. They have the best cupcakes and cakes recipe in them along with pies and allsort. Love it.
