Gluten free vegetarian substitute for fish sauce?

i think it might depend on the recipe but could anchovies come close??? mashed up with a bit of oil they dissolve

motorbo, anchovies are fish, veggies don't eat fish! The closest a veggie comes to eating any type of flesh is eggs.

me as a veggie, have no idea and have never (even when I ate meat,) liked fish.

For vegetarians, instead of fish sauce, try a light soy sauce. I would use about half the quantity the recipe specifies, as soy sauce is a bit stronger in flavour.
