Just watched a news item on TV (about E.Coli outbreak) and they showed someone slicing a red cabbage. Anyone familiar with such a tool?

Depends on the type of tool. A lettuce knife which is plastic stops lettuce going brown. It could have been a mandoline. What did it look like?

Looks to me as though it would be okay for peeling carrots and the likebut I use a mandoline for slicing my cabbage for large quantities (pickling, coleslaw, sauerkraut etc).
