Washing soda for dishwasher

Think I read on here somewhere that you can use just washing soda in the dishwasher to wash the dishes along with vinegar for the rinse aid.I have been using Wendyl's mix but just wanted to check that straight washing soda was an option!!
Thanks in advance :)

hmm? I have a bosch and replacement parts are expensive. Think I will just stick to buying the balls on special at countdown. There prices are always the best on that product. Balls or reapirs??

Here are a few links to different home made recipes for dish washer powder:

If you google 'how to make your own dishwasher powder' you'll find a whole lot of others as well :)

Commercial dishwasher powder has a whole lot of quite strong chemicals in it, and it doesn't cause damage. You can find out, I looked it up on the net.

However straight washing soda isn't enough.
