with a bit of bite.Everything seems to have chilli in it these days and while I don't mind a bit - even a little bit seems to be too much these days.Any suggestions for an alternative that will give the bite but not quite the heat????TIA

Fresh ginger - it has a different sort of heat and quite a pleasant taste.

I think maybe that wasabi is rather hot - at least the paste one buys in a tube for sushi is.

Mustard is also quite pleasant - use either the unprocessed seeds or buy cracked mustard already made up.

I used this in peanut satay recently and it worked a treat. Not too hot but little zing

Do you ever get to Auckland City much, there was a BRILLIANT shop in Sandringham called Spice Invaders, if still there ask them, they don't just have 1 type of chilli, but several, same with paprika, plus all sorts of unusual stuff, you buy by weight. There are different types of chillis, some with less heat.

I know what you mean by the bite tho, sometimes they put too much in.

No, it's not at all like that.

I would suggest pepper.
