Hi there
I had this problem a couple of weeks ago.I amply covered the burnt area with cold water, added a load of baking soda, put the pot on to boil and let it boil for a good 20 minutes or so.Nearly all the scorched jam had come off and what was left was easy to remove..good luck

Vinegar boiled in the pot works too.

You can use dishwasher powder also sprinkled into the base and pour hot water in to about a cm to cover and leave to stand for a few hours. Use gloves to clean as is very alkaline and will harm your skin. Usually whips anything like that off.
