Exactly.If you want to extend the meat (to make it go further) add some finely grated onion and carrot.
For burger patties I only ever add salt, pepper, sometimes grated onion.

The meat will bind itself once cooked. You need to add nothing at all to mince to keep it together. You CAN add some grated veges or salt and pepper or chilli or herbs if you wish though.

i use the sausage meat from any (not precooked) sausage. works beautifully and the meat will be nice and moist rather than using breadcrumbs and egg in my opinion makes the meat very dry. Mother inlaw taught me this and i use it for patties, meatballs rissoles and so on but it works the best i usually just put 2 or 3 in to 500g mince. when i do my weekly meat shop i just buy a pack of yummy sausages and divide into bags of 3 to put out with the mince.
