More Fibre in diet needed.

orcawhale, Nov 3, 10:06pm
finally after a long time of the runs? we had none this morning.

YAY.

gp and nurse said more fibre is needed to toughen it up.

heaps more fresh veges, steamed fish, lean meats, boiled chicken no skinand brown breads.

he still has to keep off the dairy products.

Did we need to know that

is there any other foods with plenty of fibre for him??

porridge for breakfast with added oatbran or a prinkling of LSA (Linseed Sunflower and Almond ground up - delicious and can be added to anything - sold in heaps of places - often vege shops, health food, binn inn etc)

chia seeds are also excellent and can just be added into meals

buy some vi-bran baking bran, but take it by itself about 1 - 2 dessert spoon fulls a day, either off the spoon and wash down with water or juice or sprinkle on cereal or fruit. specialist told me this years ago in its raw state it has an enzyme that soothes the bowel as well as providing fibre.

I use fibre sachets, you can buy them at the chemist, tasteless, odourless, gluten friendly and dont clump, I add one to my coffee in the morning and then one into a waterbottle about lunch time.

Good for you orca - but that is what most people said ages ago - eat NORMAL food = meat, veges, eggs, fish and a little fruit and a little dairy (if he can tolerate it - otherwise give it away).

So what is new?
You would get plenty of fibre if 70% of the diet is veges and the rest is protein ... you don't need to change anything there.

Just cut out the cr@p and you will be fine - to re-iterate the cr@p is grains (comes in the disguise of flour, bread, cakes, muffins, breakfast cereals, crackers, pasta, rice etc) and sugar.

While potatoes, sweet potatoes and pumpkins are not that great either - they are the least of your worries ...

Good luck once again! :)

cheers uli.

he is not allowed to have anything dairy at this stage.

the test for celiac came back negative so that is brilliant. the nurse said it is pretty much right on with the results.

he loves pasta and that will be alittle hard to cut that out.

you might be able to have occasionally the high fibre pasta, think it might be a wholemeal one. I don't like it personally but heaps of people do.

Avocado! a whole one has like 12g of fiber - yummo in salads :)
