tamarillo chutney

18 tamarillos
6 medium-sized onions
1 1/2 cups malt vinegar
4 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 large cooking apples
3 tsp plain salt
2 tsp mixed spice
1 tsp curry powder

1. Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Plunge tamarillos into the water for 3 minutes. Drain, then peel off skin and remove stems.

2. Chop tamarillos into rough chunks and place in a large saucepan along with the rest of the ingredients. Bring to the boil and allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2 to 2 1/2 hours until thick.

3. Pour into hot, sterilised jars and seal
