I am about to make some tomato relish but dont have quite enough malt vinegar. Can I top it up with white vinegar?

You sure can. malt vinegar makes a darker mixture where as white vinegar make it lighter. white vinegar is usually used in pickles that are light in colour. say a pineapple pickle.

I use only white when making tomato relish- gives a better tomato colour.
