Why did the marshmallow seperate from the gelatine

We made some marshmallow and there was a layer of gelatine on the bottom. what did we do wrong!It tasted good at least .

mixer could not handle the mixture, not whipped long enough, may be. I have not had that problem myself. just guessing.

Or could be gelatine hasn't dissolved properly before beating, when cool you have to beat it quite some time usually till the mixture fluffs up almost to the top of the bowl, and its quite thick. Just another guess.
