I have heard of golden syrup being replacement for glugose syrup, but it will alter the taste. That has been in baking like slices or biscuits.Otherwise not sure sorry.

I have used golden syrup.Yep slightly different taste and colour. It is to help stop the fudge crystallizing so isn't essential.

Make a simple sugar syrup (inverted sugar syrup) 1 to 1 sugar and water with a splash of lemon juice bring to the boil and leave to cool. As terraviva1 says "It is to help stop the fudge crystallizing so isn't essential."
