Advice please.

My ginger loaf recipe calls for 4 cups of plain flour and then 2 tsp of baking powder. I have no plain flour, but do have self-raising. can I still make it!

I'm no expert. but I think the ratio for 1 cup of self raising flour is 1 cup of plain flour and 1 tsp of baking powder, so would think that is twice as much baking powder iykwim.Do you have wholemeal flour you could do 2 cups of sr flour and 2 cups of wholemeal.

IMO, yes absolutely babytears - however with the stated ratio of flour:baking powder, using self-raising flour may make your loaf rise more than using the flour + baking powder would.:-))

been fine to use SR flour, just dont use any BP. Your loaf will just be a bit lighter, and more cake like.

Great thanks for the advice :)

Just use the S.R Flour as it already has the raising agent in it.

to be honest i always do my loaves with self raising now
i get a much softer moister result
so much easier
even if a recipe calls for plain often i will use sr instead
its more expensive but so is throwing out a rock cake! he he
