I have bought one second hand and as I have never owned one of these machines before I was hoping someone might have an old manual that I could photocopy. I have had a look on line and I can download one off a UK website for 50p but thought I would try my luck in here. I have had it running and it sounds ok to me (not that I would know any different), I did notice some little black specks in the bottom of the bowl when I turned it off. so, it might need a service, any suggestions on this would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance. :-)

Google for a service man in your area, sounds like it needs looked at if its spitting out oil.

myrtie52, Dec 27, 12:40am
The little black specks were dry rather than oily, hope it is not a serious thing. I will get it looked at as soon as I can.

50p is not a lot of money, but I may have one. I'll check later and come back to you.

myrtie52, Dec 27, 12:43am
that would be awesome kuaka, yeah 50p isnt a lot, I just thought it was worth askingin here. :-)

gardie, Dec 27, 12:49am
Did you have the whisk in when you got the little black specks!I find that water creeps into the join (where all the ends of wires meet the plastic) and the force of the spinning sends it back out into the bowl.I only use the K beater these days because of that.

myrtie52, Dec 27, 1:04am
I didnt actually have any attachments in at the time, I just wanted to hear it running.

gardie, Dec 27, 2:09am
Have a good clean up in the bit where the attachments go.Also use a toothpick to clean all the 'joins'.There are a few nooks and crannies where bits of mixture could fly - and then come out again. It is more likely to be this than to be a problem with the machine.

Thanks gardie. :-)

This one is probably about 35 - 40 years old, I would say just looking at it that it hasnt had a lot of use, I'm not sure if I would be game to open it up and grease it myself. but I have a good friend who probably would!
It came with the liquidiser as well and that still has legible labels on it so it cant have been used much either. There are 2 seals, an orange flat one and a grey ridged one and I am geussing they have something to do with the liquidiser but not sure where or how thay are meant to be used, which is why I tought it would be good to see an instruction manual.

You would be wise to use a food grade grease on the mixer, its safer if any comes in contact with the attachments or food.

pickles7, Dec 27, 3:08pm
I have done that as well. They are so easy to get into. I bought a Major on here not long ago, before I started it , it was opened cleaned, greased , perfect.

myrtie52, Dec 27, 4:35pm
Where do you get food grade grease from!

pickles7, Dec 27, 10:36pm
I don't think grease is going to drip into your food, I have not ever seen that happen, if you are unsure, get it done by a person who specialises in small motors.

Talk to someone who deals in commecial food equipment in your area in Dunedin its Southern Hospitality

myrtie52, Dec 28, 12:34am
Thanks peoples, I have found a man locally who has serviced kenwood chefs, he mostly does larger appliances like washing machines etc but because he is not a young fella he knows about older mixers, I dropped it off today and will pick it up tomorrow :-)
So. now I just have to learn how to use it and I am sure that is not difficult, I will probably pay 50p and download a manual from a UK website.

kindee, Dec 28, 12:37am
They are very simple to use, you'll get so much out of it!
Mine is in getting fixed, will cost $170. Still cheap for a 23 year old Kenwood on its first repair!

Happy baking!

I'll let you knowhow I get on. :-) I've got bananas and duck eggs lined up!

kuaka, Dec 28, 1:59am
50p was only about a dollar when I last saw the exchange rates just before Christmas.I doubt it's changed drastically since then.

nauru, Dec 29, 12:55am
The grey ridged one goes in the base of your liquidizer, the orange one is for the lid.

myrtie52, Dec 29, 1:06am
Yeah I figured the grey ridged one out but the orange one is not a size that fits any part of the lid. What I did do with it is sit it on the base where the bowl goes as it seemed to be a bit loose even when it was locked in, the orange ring made it aperfect fit and there was no movement so maybe that is what it is for. I dunno, it's all a bit of trial and error for me. I have made a banana cake and it is nearly due to come out of the oven, it looks ok at this stage :-)
I downloaded the manual from the uk website, felt a bit silly buying something for $1.04 on the visa, it is good though as it has answered some of my questions.

myrtie52, Dec 29, 2:38am
The cake looks and smells great :-)
