Hi, I want to make Jo Seager's chicken and corn shepherd's pie for tea, but have no creme fraiche.I do, however, have plain yoghurt, plain cream, and sour cream.Would any of these, or any combination of them, be a reasonable substitute!Thanks.

crayonstory, IMO sour cream would "be a reasonable substitute"BUT sour cream cannot be heated to the same extent that creme fraiche can without the risk of it splitting, and that applies also to yoghurt.:-))

245sam is right.And also remember that creme fraiche has its own special flavour that is hard to replace.

Thanks.I ended up scotching the idea and will make it another day when I do have creme fraiche.
