I also use the microwave method - whisk together eggs and sugar, swirl in the juice and zest, dot with the butter, and microwave on defrost or the lowest setting for about 6-8 minutes, stopping halfway for one stir.
It will not thicken completely when you cook it - the thickening happens in the fridge as the butter cools.
