No I didn't see that thread.Interesting recipes there too.I found the first recipe here when looking for a hot water pastry recipe.I really want to try making pastry with lard, but can't find any lard (Blenheim really is a small town in many ways)

the chinese have something similar.. they have chinese puff pastry. It consists of two dough, one is flour + oil, and another is flour + water. Basically the water dough is used to wrapped around the oil dough and folded over 3 times for the layer effect.
