Lemon cakes X 2 ring tins

I found this recipe on an old bit of paper in a book I was given, so I gave it a try. Very nice texture on the second day. The first day it was a bit too soft and a bit crumbly
1/2 a pkt of butter
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs [1 at a time]
grated rind of 2 lemons
1 teaspoon of lemon essence
3 cups of self raising flour
alternately with
1 cup of milk

divide between the 2 tins
bake 3/4 of an hour @ 170 deg C.
drizzle over 1/2 cup of sugar dissolved in lemon juice as soon as they come out of the oven
Best made the day before you require them
