Tried a lovely = not to sweet date slice = in auzzie on holiday would love to make it, a tried and true recipe would be much appreciated. thanks

Date Shortcake (yum) Edmonds
25gr butter 125gr sugar 1 egg 125gr flour 125gr cornflour 1tsp b/powder 225gr chopped dates juice of lemon
Cream butter & sugar, add egg then flour, cornflour & b/powder. Knead. Roll out 1/2 mixture & place on a cold greased tray. Put dates into a saucepan, add a little water (approx 2TBSPs & lemon juice). Cook over low heat until dates are soft. Cool & spread over shortcake. Roll out remaining shortcake & place on top. Bake 25 mind @ 190. When cold ice with lemon icing.
Then invite me for a piece.

That sounds nice. Instead of lemon juice try it with orange juice and the zest of the orange in with the shortcake.

My Mum does one with the orange juice in it -from memory, the dates are lightly cooked in the juice. The base and toopping has rolled oats in it I think.
