Butter or Margarine

spdip, Mar 5, 4:01am
I usually use butter in my baking, however I am doing some baking with a group of youth, where somebody else is paying for the ingredients. If I can't get butter cheap enough, what is the best margarine to use in baking!

I am going to work shortly but will pop back when I can.

butter is best. P & Save are having a "cow" week and have butter two for $5.00 this week.

There's no butter like butter!

Agree. It just has to be butter.

I use meadowlea or flora original marg in baking as a substitute for butter.
I too prefer butter but sometimes money dictates the use of marg and if its for teaching a group of youth then whichever is cheapest and easiest. Marg I can cream easily, butter requires me getting out the machine due to arthritis

I only use butter but, I believe, for pastry marg or a mix of lard and butter is supposed to be better. Totally agree with cgvl about the creaming though, especially now I'm back to the wooden spoons having killed beloved Kenwood Chef number 2.

Thanks ladies.

Butter it will be! I know pak n save had it 2 for $5 last week but I didn't think to grab some for the baking. Glad to hear it still is this week.
