Question about microplanes.need a recommendation

karlymouse, Nov 11, 2:33am
I have checked Mitre 10 and they don't have one that only has one handle. they have one that can be used in two different thicknesses.

Can anyone recommend a brand they are using please.

Progressive.

Has 3 thicknesses, 1 handle and it can be locked.

The brand is Microplane.I like the ones with the long thin blade - they are supported by their curled metal edges and last a long time. The ones with the rectangular blades and an acrylic frame don't last so well because the frames are not strong enough and break down under pressure.

Microplane does various zesters. The thin one is the classic which is great for zesting, parmesan cheese, ginger etc. The bigger ones USED to have an acrylic frame. You want the professional one, but personally, the classic does the job of a number of the other ones. I have the classic as well as a couple of the bigger professional ones. They are THE only brand to use. They are a surgical stainless steel with a santoprene handle.

Although not a Microplane, Cuisipro graters are also very good quality graters:
