It's taken ages for the weird taste to go from ours, been boiled the required number before use, but 2 weeks later still getting the weird flavour.

I did the baking soda, empty out the water then filled up again and boiled water with the juice from one lemon and the rind from half a lemon, did the trick, smell has gone. BTW it was a metal jug too, but a 2L one, really hard to find, most jugs on the market are 1.7L

Try white vinegar - a good splash in the jug and boil and leave to go cold.

It could take ages as someone else has said. Take it back. We returned about 3 jugs. One we could hear at the other end of the house, another had that horrid taste, one just stopped. We ended up with a Breville, extra quiet.

If it has that taste, almost nothing you do will eliminate it, take it back to store for exchange or buy a new one - personal experience and perseverance with all sorts of "remedies" has taught me this!
