This is a quick easy recipe with no jam, and tastes vg.You could of course try placing half mixture in tin, spread with jam, then rest of mixture if you want to. Belgian Slice 110gr butter 110gr sugar 1 egg 2 tsp cinnamon 2 tsp mixed spice 1 Tblsp golden syrup 1 tsp baking powder 1+1/2 cups flour Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, then syrup and sifted dry ingredients. Press into a slice tin and bake for 20 mins at 180dC.Ice with white icing and sprinkle with red jelly crystals.Cut into squares.

From what I can see by doing a Google search the slice is known as both/either Belgium and/or Belgian Slice and certainly the recipe I found on the link as posted at #2 is called Belgium Slice.:-))

Belgium is the country and Belgian is originating from the country.Having lived in Belgium I never saw the slice for sale.
My recipe http://brama-sole.co.nz/recipes/belgium-slice/ is referred to as Belgium slice (Belgian), the same recipe makes the biscuits. The link to them is in the recipe post. This is an old recipe spaning a few generations back in my family.
